Over the last few years I have created birthday cakes for my step daughter, you can tell which was the first.  It was the peppa pig, it was my first go at run in icing, had real trouble with it cracking when I transferred it to the cake.  The second was a character called buzby from the show Beehive, then last year I created a sleeping beauty cake.  I have loved creating these cakes and loved that she recognised each of the characters although she was confused why Sleeping Beauty was in a bed, made us laugh.  This year I am hoping to make a repunzel cake, but I am waiting for back surgery so fingers crossed I can make it for her.

My first celebration cake

My first celebration cake was for my then future mother in law, it was her 65th birthday and I offered to make her a cake - got to keep the mother in law on side😊. I decided to make a chocolate box, I had never used fondant before and I had a nightmare trying to get it smooth, would have helped if I had brought enough to cover the cake, luckily I managed to get it so no chocolate sponge showed.

If I was to do this cake again I would make the truffles for the inside and make my own chocolate fondant.  Still I was happy with final result although now I can see all the imperfections, my trouble is I don't like to fail in my cakes and other people will love it and all I see are the mistakes!

Time to start my blog!!!

It's been 6 months since I created this blog while I stayed with my friend Jane who is an avid blogger.  Now I have accessed the account it's time to get started!

I have always enjoyed baking, but I got the bug to make celebration cakes when I decided to do my wedding cake, so needed to practice and develop my skills. I am not what you call artistic but somehow I manage to create something people are happy with.

I welcome any comments on my baking as I am a hobby baker and create for my friends and family.
